After 10 Years, LEGO releases a new Tantive IV (Non-UCS).
I am excited! I have missed both previous iterations of the Tantive IV and finally get one. Every year, I do a wishlist of Star Wars UCS sets that I would like to see remade or re-released and the Tantive IV was my Number 1 requested set on my 2018 list. My prediction was on target with set, the date (Early 2019) but not on piece count or it being classified as an Ultimate Collector Series. That being said, the new model looks great! I will be picking it up day 1 and reviewing it on here and Youtube.
I find it interesting they went the playset route for this set and not label it an Ultimate Collector Series(UCS) or Master Builder Series (MBS). The packaging is similar to the UCS design and over the last few years, LEGO has released an UCS/MBS set for each of the May the 4th Be With You celebration weekends. This makes the set a hybrid of the original UCS version and the 2009 edition.
Let’s get into the details:
The set is 1768 pieces with a small interior and two detachable escape pods. The 1768 pieces with a smaller overall design lead to nice shaping and lots of greebling to create a fantastic shaped Rebel Blockade Runner. There are 5 Minifigures(Princess Leia, Bail Organa, Captain Antiles, Rebel Fleet Trooperamd C-3PO) plus R2-D2. Here are pics of the minifigures, the interior and the escape pods:
